Often found in the immediate vicinity of hand-laced curtains, wood carvings are usually associated with a rural homeliness. Their image traditionally functions as a mediator of christian narratives and rural idylls. This environment was consciously left behind and yet countryside and home seem to remain places of longing where memories meet.   Within the works, in which traditional carving meets contemporary emoticons, the material, motif and medium initially contradict each other. They argue, maybe even abuse each other, and eventually reconcile.
